Custom Action

Hi Everyone,
I want to obtain the following:

Depending on the version of MS Office installed, we need to install the appropriate MADE (Microsoft Access Database Engine) version. The MADE install should run silently in the background. If a user uninstalls our application, the MADE is left untouched and remains on the user's computer. SO How can i do this ?

Custom Rules execution timing

Hello,

I have a dialog box that collects user information followed by a message box that has a custom rule associated with it so that the message box only displays if the rule is validated to true.

What I'm finding is that the custom rule on the message box is executed when the dialog box is first displayed not after they click next. the rule is then executed again when the next button is pressed. Is there a way to stop the early execution of the rule? the rule requires information in the dialog box which is why it is on a message box after the dialog box.

Suite rollback on error

I have a simple Suite project which installs two MSIs. When testing it the 2nd MSI failed to install because I forgot to rebuild it after making a change and the suite install caught the error and quit as expected. However the first MSI is still installed even though the 2nd one failed to install and the suite install as a whole failed. I've looked through everything and am not seeing anything I can set which will make it rollback the first MSI if the second fails.

Basic MSI: InstallScript custom action

I have a basic msi project in which I have an InstallScript custom action.
The custom action runs LaunchApplication and sets the working directory to INSTALLDIR

Now, I know that the paths are set correctly, because the actual batch file executes. So INSTALLDIR must be set correctly because I use that to obtain the path to the batch files.
However, unless the working directory is set properly, the batch files will always fail, because the batch files are written with only the names of idividual files inside of them, and CMD.exe tends to execute in the system32 context without the working directory set properly.

I have been at this for many days working on variations of this problem.

First I started by calling CMD.exe directly and passing in /C "<installdir>batchfile.bat". This process fails. Note that in each of these tests, the working directory for LaunchApplication is set to "INSTALLDIR", not the property name as I have it spelled out here, but the value of INSTALLDIR as received by MsiGetProperty inside of my InstallScript custom action. I just wanted to be clear here because some people read these things literally :)

I have tried adding quotes to the working directory using the following:

    LongPathToQuote(strWorkingDir, TRUE);
My command line is formatted as follows:

nCmdResult = LaunchApplication(sFullPath, "",strWorkingDir, SW_NORMAL, 120000, LAAW_OPTION_WAIT);
When I ran this with the CMD prompt and the /K option, the context was showing CMD window was set to system32, not my strWorkingDir value. The MSI log definately shows that strINSTALLDIR is set correctly.
What am I missing in this puzzle?

EULA - problems with extended ASCII characters in SdLicenseEx (Non-RTF) dialog

I have an Installscript-MSI project where we display our EULA using the SdLicenseEx (Non-RTF) dialog. There are couple of extended ASCII characters that seem to be causing trouble, particularly when installing on Chinese/Japanese/Korean Windows:

á ó é

The file has typically been kept as ASCII, which is fine except when installing in Asian Windows versions.

I tried converting the text file used by the dialog into UTF-8, and in Notepad++ this appears fine, but then when running the installer, these characters end up getting converted to Japanese characters that don't belong.

I would appreciate any advice on this issue.

Can I Pass Feature State (&Feature1 or !Feature1) As Command Line Args to .exe CA?

I have a small widget that updates the Add Remove Programs display based on what features are installed. I pass in the [ProductCode] and tried passing in &Feature1 !Feature1 &Feature2 !Feature2, but all I get is the actual text there, not the numerical value.

If I use ADDLOCAL that will only show Features Added during a maintenance install and that won't due because features already installed aren't present there.

Any Help appreciated!

Information Sharing: Build an setup to install some custom prerequisites on user PC

This thread is to share an information:

I am using InstallShield 2013 to build an installer to install some custom prerequisites on my user computers.
First I have to Create a custom Prerequisites using the Prerequisite Editor, set the condition, file path etc in that.
After creating the Custom Prerequisites, select it in the the redistributable list to include it in the build,
Right click this prerequisite, & change the value of the property called "InstallShield Prerequisites Location" from "Copy From Source Media" to "Extract From Setup.exe"

But to my surprise i was not getting a single set up file with the Prerequisite installed embedded.

To enable this, go to your release's "Setup.exe" tab and change the value of the property called "InstallShield Prerequisites Location" from "Copy From Source Media" to "Extract From Setup.exe".

I have read release notes from installshield and as per them i should return license and then setup but now I cannot return as machine is inaccessible. What shall be done now?

Remove folder in AppDataFolder during Uninstall

I have Basic MSI project. This is installation package for Windows Forms application.
User installs it, starts working and can store some user settings (for example, form's size, location,...) to xml files located at c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MyProjectNameFolder

I'm trying to implement possibility of removing these setting files during uninstall. For this purpose I added simple checkbox 'Remove user settings' and placed it on ReadyToRemove dialog. Then I created a custom action specifying
cmd.exe /c rmdir /s/q "[AppDataFolder]MyProjectNameFolder" as File Name and Command Line param.

So, it removes MyProjectNameFolder if checkbox checked. But displays 'Error 1722. There's problem with this Windows Installer package....' when I'll trying to invoke this CA if c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\MyProjectNameFolder does not exist.

I have a question, what is the best approach in this case? Can installScript and DeleteDir function help me? Or may be it's better do not create InstallScript CA at all, but find correct condition for my Custom Action with cmd and rmdir?

Limited Edition with VS2013

Hi,

I didn't see a place to post this question specifically relating to the Limited Edition version of this program, so I'm trying here. My apologies if there's a better place and I haven't found it. I have been able to use this with Visual Studio 2013 a handful of times maybe a week ago. I come back today, without any changes to my machine, and make a few minor tweaks to my code and do a rebuild. Now, it crashes VS every single time I build my setup project. I go into Event Viewer, and I get these messages:

"Abort" script command does not work on Windows 8.1

I have several InstallScripts that use the "abort" command. However, this command no longer works on windows 8.1. It does not abort the install. I discovered this in a script I was running on Windows 8.1

To verify this, I created a simple InstallScript custom action in which all I did was call "abort". When I ran it on windows 8 it worked and caused the install to be interrupted. When I ran it on Windows 8.1 the install continued to run as it normally does.

Is this a known issue?

2010 StandaloneBuild error : Creating an instance of the COM component

Has anyone experienced issues result from the following?

error : Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {93CEE7B9-3554-499 9-9FC0-8C0B661714B5} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 800a801d Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A801D.

I confirmed that "ISWiAutomation16.dll" is properly registered and local "Administrator" does in fact has "full" control to this COM object.
