Annoying popup

$

As of today I've started to get a popup: "Software Manager", wanting me to purchase a Premier upgrade at a discount (have a Pro license).
This is very annoying, having to click through it many times a day (we build several installations in many configurations, a few times a day, using scripts by running devenv.exe since we rely on dynamic project dependency solving).

Is there any way to get rid of this popup?
Even worse, pressing Cancel gives me (randomly) a crash: "pure virtual call".
I pressed Next (with the intent to abort later), but that led to a Error message (404).

The company are currently scaling up this project big time and not being able to rely on the installations to build reliable in not an option.
If we can't resolve this quick enough, we'll have to make the effort of getting our installations up to speed on a "competitor product", a time consuming task.

(I do have images, but I can't insert them or attach them as files, "upload fail" in both cases, tried png and jpeg).

Embedded jar setting in Launcheranywhere

Hi,
Im very new to this software. I just want to know is there anyway that i can embed a jar into a compiled executable (.exe) using launcheranywhere function (similar to JSmooth wrapper function)?
The reason for this is because I don't want to include the jar in the installation folder for security reason. But the thing is, without the jar, my java application will not work :(

Hiya

We are quite looking forward to what I seen on community.flexerasoftware.com. This is often my personal initial write-up at this point. Currently the net is loaded with **** and never find out what to assume precisely what not necessarily. Someone said on a variety of community forums and generate in a means and another manner. I really don't know very well what to trust. Who will deliver additional information can be welcome.

Just wish everybody effectively.

msi System Search looking for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32

Hello,
I have built an 32-Bit Basic MSi Setup.
As "System Search" I define search for some registry value:
HKLM
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\InstallRoot
Path

Search in 64-bit portion of reg is OFF

Property: FOUNDWW14

On some PC (Win7x86) is property FOUNDWW14 empty. But Office 2010 32-Bit is installed and looking in Registry I can see the Path-Key with installation target.

If I look in the setup log file, I see AppSearch is looking in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE32 (NOT in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE).

Uncontrolled silent installation on Windows?

Hi,

when running installer (with AI2013 but it was the case with 2012 at least) in silent mode on Windows, the command immediately returns unlike on Unix where the command only returns when the installation is finished.
Is there a way to workaround this bug?

Thanks,

Xavier.

Execute SQL Against SQL Compact Database During Install

$

I am delivering a desktop application that includes SQL Server Compact 4 and the associated .sdf file for the application. As part of the install process we collect information from the user that needs to be written to the database.

The documentation contains information on configuring connections to a network instance instance of SQL Server, My SQL, and Oracle but I can't find any way to connect to my .sdf file.

Note that the .sdf file location will be dependent on the install location entered by the user and needs to be able to have replacement strings just like the SQL scripts themselves.

Many thanks!

AIX 7 failing to verify VM

$

AIX 7 won't find my VMs even though they're installed. I set LAX_DEBUG and it says

Verifying1... /usr/java6/bin/java -classpath /tmp/install.dir.27852854/InstallerData/jvmspecs/Verify.jar Verify java.vendor java.version
=== verify=
Verification failed for /usr/java6/bin/java using the JVM file /tmp/install.dir.27852854/InstallerData/jvmspecs/ibm_aix_16x.jvm.

I stopped it before it could delete all the directories, and ran the java command myself, and it got reasonable results:
1739021872
IBM Corporation
1.6.0

The jvmspecs file looks like it should match, it says "1.6..."

I tried to put extra debug information into the installer.bin file, but unfortunately there's checksums and adding text to the script parts gets you different checksum results, so I'm stuck with whatever debugging output it gives me. Which isn't saying WHY it is failing to vet the vm. Though the "verify=" line looks like it's supposed to have a value after the =, and it doesn't. Which is what I was trying to understand when I was stymied by checksums.

What can I do to make AIX find my VM? Interestingly on AIX 6 it finds it because it's not TRYING to use the jvmspecs, because it can't unzip the file -- so it just uses some default verification that's simpler!

Flexera software update captured in adminstudio repackage Legacy Package

Hi,

I am using Adminstudio ZENworks Edition 10 sp2 on a W7 x64.
I disabled adminstudio's updates (Tools\Options\Updates to never).
I am repackaging a software with "Repackaging wizard".
When i edit the project in order to build the msi, i don't see any files or registry entries referring to Flexera software update.
It seems that FLEXnet software update was added during the msi build.
Unfortunately, when i deploy the msi on a target computer, the shortcut Flexera software update and the service is present.

How to not have FLEXnet software update when i build the msi?

Thank you for your help

Prevent registration of dll (that comes from Project output)

$

I have a dll that is generated from the primary output of a project. The dll should not be registered/self register. I see that I can workaround this with:

* exclude it from the primary output of that project
* manually add it and apply properties

But it would be better if I had detailed control, just like the Visual Studio setup project, to control registration properties from files from output. Is it possible to do this any way?

Force Reboot in InstallScript MSI project

$

We have a InstallScript MSI project.
For a specific functionality of our software it's necessary to add a windows feature on Server 2008 R2 / Server 2012 (Feature DesktopExperience). This feature needs a reboot after getting installed.

I'm activating this feature with pkgmgr.exe /quite... in order that the computer will not reboot immediately. Instead of that, the installation should be finished and the user is asked for a reboot.

For this I have set the InstallScript variable BATCH_INSTALL to „true“ and the SdFinishReboot dialog is shown as expected. But when I select "Yes, reboot now" the installation is finished, but the server doesn't reboot as he should.

I have checked the result of call System(SYS_BOOTMACHINE). The return value is 6 (what means WILL_REBOOT), but there is no reboot at all.

Is this perhaps a permission issue on Server OS?
Nevertheless as soon as I start the setup with the property "REBOOT=force" a standard reboot dialog is shown and the machine reboots as expected.

How can I force a reboot on user selection with InstallScript project on Server 2008?

Thanks for your help.
Thomas

String in InstallScript CA always in English

$

I recently localized an installer project using IS2012 Spring Premier. In this project I have an InstallScript Custom Action that performs a task and updates the status message on the status dialog using the following code:

Code:

svStatus = @ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES;

hInstall= MsiGetActiveDatabase(hMSI);
set rec = MsiCreateRecord(3);
MsiRecordSetString(rec, 1, "callAddProgressInfo");
MsiRecordSetString(rec, 2, svStatus);
MsiRecordSetString(rec, 3, "");

MsiProcessMessage(hInstall ,INSTALLMESSAGE_ACTIONSTART, rec);

MsiRecordSetInteger(rec, 1, 0);
MsiRecordSetInteger(rec, 2, 0);
MsiRecordSetInteger(rec, 3, 0);
MsiProcessMessage(hInstall ,INSTALLMESSAGE_ACTIONDATA, rec);

The custom action runs in Commit Execution in the Install Exec Sequence after the BindImage action. The custom action works as expected, however the status message is always displayed in English. My string table contains translated strings:

ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES German: Deutsch Kopieren von SW1- und SW2 Client-Installer-Bedingungen...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES English (United States) Copying SW1 and SW2 Client installer prerequisites...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Spanish: español Copiando requisitos previos del asistente de instalación de SW1 y SW2 Client...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES French (France): français Copie des éléments requis pour les installateurs de SW1 et de SW2 Client...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Italian: italiano Copia dei prerequisiti di installazione di SW1 e SW2 Client in corso...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Japanese: ??? SW1 ??? SW2 Client ???????????????????...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Portuguese (Brazil): Português Copiando os pré-requisitos do instalador do SW1 e do SW2 Client...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Russian: ??????? ??????????? ??????????? ??????????? ??? ????????? ????????? SW1 ? SW2 Client...
ID_MSG_COPYING_PREREQUISITES Chinese (Simplified): ??(??) ???? SW1 ? SW2 Client ?????????...

Why won't the proper language string be displayed as ste status message?

Basic MSI upgrade issue.

$

I have a Basic MSI that is basically just a file copy. The input is a click once directory that is added dynamically when built. It looks something like this:
App.Application
publish.html
Application Files (Directory)
|->App_w_x_y_z (where w_x_y_z represents the version).

The MSI runs perfectly fine the first time. I have changed the Package Code, Product Version and recreated the installer (also republished the click once so it is now version w_x_y+1_z). When I run the the new installer it tells me it will upgrade the existing installation (good), goes through the motions, looks like it is working, and tells me it completes successfully.

When I go to the directory I installed to, I don't see any change in any of the files. I tried adding the following to MSI Command-Line Arguments 'REINSTALLMODE=vaums REINSTALL=ALL' but to no avail.

When I do an upgrade the previous version serves no purpose anymore. With that in mind is there a way to do an uninstall first (that is silent to the user), or is there something simple that I am missing? Or a better way to accomplish what I need?

/edit - It is worth noting that the files I am replacing have no File Version attached to them.

Controlling execution flow during install phase

$

During the install phase of my installer, I would like to display a prompt if a certain error condition is met. I would like the user to have an option to retry the step that failed, but it seems that InstallAnywhere does't allow jump actions to jump back to a earlier step. Is there another way of doing this? I want the user to be able to possible recover during the installation instead of crashing out of the installer.

Thanks.

Can I Pass Feature State (&Feature1 or !Feature1) As Command Line Args to .exe CA?

$

I have a small widget that updates the Add Remove Programs display based on what features are installed. I pass in the [ProductCode] and tried passing in &Feature1 !Feature1 &Feature2 !Feature2, but all I get is the actual text there, not the numerical value.

If I use ADDLOCAL that will only show Features Added during a maintenance install and that won't due because features already installed aren't present there.

Any Help appreciated!

How to modify "Permanent" attribute at runtime

$

Hello,

I have some components (configuration files) marked as permanent.
So when user have to remove product , this files are preserved.
Now, I want users to be able to choose between keep or remove this files when they are removing product.
In the "Ready to remove" Dialog box, I have added a check box that set a property.

I thought the best way to remove this files is to change the "permanent attribute" with a custom action when the property is set.

My questions are:

- is is the best way to do that?
- if yes, could I have some help to write th custom action?
- if no, how can I do?

My project is basic MSI

Thanks in advance

Stéphane

My

Oracle 10g Won't Publish to CM12 from App Catalog

Hello!

Ran into a strange issue last night. We're on AdminStudio 2013 and we've published literally hundreds of applications now to SCCM 2012 with no issues. We published the application before this one which included the Oracle response files with no problem. When anyone attempts to publish Oracle 10g itself it tries for about 3 minutes and then the attached error:

Distribute task was not successfully completed: A required process for this task failed
Error: Publish operation failed with the following error message: Generic failure

Has anyone ever seen this before? Do you know what caused it and what can be done?

Our AdminStudio workstations are all Windows 8 (RTM I believe).

Thanks!
