I just created an MSI with Repackager and found out that my msi doesn't capture (install) the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64). So I find out I can add this in Installshield. I open the MSI in Installshield and click on Redistributables, but the package isn't anywhere to be found in the gallery. If I open up a fresh project, it is available to choose from... but in my MSI project, it seems I can only choose Merge Modules and not the any of the InstallShield Prerequisites.

Any ideas?

Sorry if this a dumb question... I'm new to the packaging world.

Hi, i was wondering if there was anyway to modify the default panels to make the 'Next' button highlighted/selected/focus by default so the user doesn't have to tab/mouse over to it on each panel. Or is this more of a custom panel type of behaviour?

Hi All,

I am looking for the Automation API in InstallShield for QuickPatch project.

I have my way to find files differences between two versions. And add/ delete files in QuickPatch project from UI could match the purpose to make an update.exe.

Is there a way to add/ delete files in QuickPatch project using Automation API? If not, do you have any suggestion to for automatically add/ delete files in update.exe?

Hi all,
Normally, if we create a Component, its entry goes in the Component table. Here, I have come across one ism file in which, I can see few entries in the Component table but the corresponding components are not seen in Setup Design.

So how did those entries get in the Component table? Will the files in those Components go on the system?

Hi,

I'm beginning to evaluate InstallShield 2013 Professional (i'm in the 21-days trial period) and I have a problem:
I have to deploy a WCF Service (.NET 4.0) in several environments (TEST, UAT, Stage, Production - Windows Server 2008 R2) under an existing web site. Unfortunately environments are not fully equal, so Web site ID and port number are not the same in all environments, so I set only the Web site's name (Web site ID and Port number are set equal to star).
When I deploy, InstallShield fails to locate the right web site by name and install the service under the default web site.

Can somebody help me or someone can tell me if it's a known bug?

Seems odd to me that the application of the hotfix is a manual process and also that you can't download it through the update popup. Not a big deal but when you have to do it on multiple machines it is a bit of a pain. An installer that backs up a files and directories and then lays down new ones would be pretty easy to write. I know flexera has the technology.

I am new to Install Shield and dealing with an Install Script MSI project.
Now I need to create a custom dialog where I need to add two edit field where in user input the string and that string I need to set into some properties.

I followed the helpnet topic available at : http://helpnet.installshield.com/installshield16helplib/Dialogs_ImplementStandard.htm

I am getting confused about the steps.. can anyone help me getting some clarity what all should be needed for such a Dialog.:(

Hello All,

My Suite-Setup installs one MSI-Package. This package has a Display Name.
Unfortunately, this display name is NOT displayed on the InstallationProgress dialog.
Property 'ISInstallStatus' has value 'package is being installed' or so (German: 'Paket wird installiert', EMPTY package name, there are two blanks after the word package/Paket).

Hi, I have a Basic MSI project which has three different properties.

Code:

ENABLE_CLIENT

ENABLE_SERVER

ENABLE_DATABASE

Each feature has a special condition so that if the feature has been disable through a property:

Level 200

if ENABLE_CLIENT <> "yes"

When I run the Setup in Silent mode, for example, I can run it in the following way:

"setup.exe" /s /v"/qb" /v"ENABLE_CLIENT=no"

and the feature Client is not installed.

The problem is that when I try to uninstall this specific installation, the uninstall process removes the Database and Server features and install the Client feature ...
So, how can I say to the feature condition that during uninstall it shouldn't care about the property value and simply uninstall everything?

Hi Team,

During uninstallation, i need to terminate a process which was created by our software. I'm using Installshield 2010. My software was developed as Basic MSI package.I have tried the following in custom action with vbscript

a) Install Exec Sequence = After InstallValidate
b) Intall Exec Condition = REMOVE="ALL"

We are getting "Files in Use" dialog when the above condition works. This happens during the underlying files are being removed by the installation.

We would like to termiate the process as a first step after selecting "Remove" option in maintenance type dialog.

Could anybody help me?

Hello,

In the Installation Wizard of a Suite Project, I would like to display the value of a Property on a label.
But though the value of this property changes several times, the text of the label is changed only once (the first time the property changes).

Details:
The property is is changed at some events like OnBegin, OnPackageConfiguring... using a SetProperty-Action.
I added a label on the InstallationProgress dialog and set the Property-field of this label to the property I want to display.
During installation, the debuglog tells me that the value of the property repeatedly changes from "OnBegin"... to "OnEnd".
But the label is displaying always the text of the first property change (in my case "OnBegin"). After that, the text is never updated.

Where is my mistake? How can I do a "Refresh" on the label?

Hi,
I'm using InstallShield 2013 Premier with SP1.

I've prepared a little test - an InstallScript MSI project that executes the following code:

szFile = TempFolder ^ "web.config"; // A UTF-8 file
listID = ListCreate (STRINGLIST);
ListReadFromFile(listID,szFile);
ListWriteToFile(listID,szFile);
ListDestroy(listID);

Despite the claim that "if the file already exists and the pre-existing file is Unicode, it writes the file as Unicode", the resulting file is actually ANSI, with two strange characters at the beginning of the file (I assume this is due to the Unicode BOM).

Seems like a bug to me.

Any idea how to resolve, or at least workaround this issue?

Currently I have two installers. They install the same files. The only difference is, in one of the installers, all the components are marked as 64 bit so they'll install to 64 bit locations. So, my question is this: What is the best way to go about combining these two installers? I've already read another thread where it was suggested that "Suite/Advanced UI" be used. Are there any other ways of doing this that don't make use of a special type of InstallShield project? Or is that the only way to accomplish this task?

I am running into a problem on WIndows 7 x86 using a PowerShell script where set-suiteproperty is failing to set a property. This is working on Windows Vista x64 in my testing. Both are clean systems - with the exception that I installed powershell on Windows Vista.

On Windows 7 x86, just before the statement for set-suiteproperty -name RUNSQLSETUP -value $true, I successfully write trace-suiteinfo -LogMessage "POWERSHELL:INFO - Named instance not found, RUNSQLSETUP property set to true"
However, a subsequent trace-suiteinfo message DOES not write to the log. So it appears that something causes the action to exit.

On vista x64 everything writes correctly to the log file and the properties are all correctly set. So I believe I have the syntax set correctly. I tried manually setting the execution policy for powershell to remotesigned just in case it might be related, however, that did not change the behavior.

Ultimately, this PowerShell function will be replace by a C++ dll call, but in the interim period I would like to get this to work.

I have been asked to offer the installer of our product a choice of user interface styles with a picture of each style so they know what they are choosing between. I cannot see any dialogues in the dialogue editor which provide this functionality.

What would be the best way to do this?

Perhaps I could make a single image showing both interface styles and use it as a background to the AskOptions Dialogue, is this possible for just one dialogue and how would I go about it?

Could I display a splash screen when I call the dialogue which would display behind and around it?
