Can we set License file with lc_set_attr function?

lc_set_attr(job, LM_A_LICENSE_FILE_PTR, (short *)&path)

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I have a counted feature. Is there any way to make it so that any instance of the licensed application (regardless of the machine) is counted against the server license?

Can't install to mapped drive when running on Windows Server 2012

It is common for our users to install our software to a shared folder on a network drive, which we map to a drive letter on Windows.

When running our installer on Windows Server 2012, on the Select Installation Location screen, we are not able to see any mapped drives in the dialog box. If we attempt to enter a path on the mapped drive directly into the text field, we get an error complaining about write permissions.

Name: winserver2012.png
Views: 4
Size: 128.4 KB

However, we do not see this behavior on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. We are able to successfully select and install to a mapped drive on these OSes.

Has anyone encountered this before? I can't tell if this is a bug in InstallAnywhere 2012 or a Windows Server 2012 idiosyncrasy we need to work around.

We're using IA2012 Enterprise Build 4930.

Suite Build Failing

I am currently using Installshield 2012 Spring edition and everytime I try to build a release it breaks "Installshield Authoring Tool has stopped working."

I cannot attach the files related to release that I am trying to build because of the size issue.

Below is the Event viewer details that I found.
Faulting application name: isdev.exe, version: 19.0.0.185, time stamp: 0x504d4b34
Faulting module name: IsWiBuild.dll, version: 19.0.0.185, time stamp: 0x504f67b5

In the previous threads (http://community.flexerasoftware.com...-failing/page2) I have noticed a user highlighting similar issue and he was a given an updated version of ISWIBuild.dll file (Version 18) and the issue was resolved but I am on the higher version of ISWIBuild.dll (Version 19.0.0.185). Any info will be helpfull.

Returning License From a broken Machine

Hi all,

Our current server that is hosting our Installshield 2011 is now down and is beyond repair. How can we transfer our license to another machine? Any idea?

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Copy files into D drive or C drive based on availability of D drive.

Our Requirment:

1. Check if D: drive is present or not.
2. If present, then copy files into D:\Folder1 or else into C:\Folder1

I tried copying files using Files & Folders section. But there was no way over there to acheive the desired conditional copying.

Thanks,
Pavan

Parameterizing Source folders.

Using "Files and Folders" section, I am able to copy files from source to destination folders. But here all source directories are static. Is there any way to parameterize the source folders? Because in our application, every build is stored in a different folder.

Thanks,
Pavan

Install Adminstudio 2013

Hi,

We currently have Adminstudio 10 installed on a Vista pc. We would like to install Adminstudio 2013 now. Therefore we will use a VMWare machine.
Most of our business pc’s (several hundreds) are Vista but we will migrate shortly to Windows 7 64-BIT. App-v will be used but packages via native Microsoft sequencer for now (Windows Vista/Windows 2008 R2), we might use Adminstudio 2013. So packages will be made for Vista as well as Windows 7 64-Bit.
I’m not fully familiar with Adminstudio yet.

I’ve seen the manuals for installation but don’t have the time to read them through for now. Just want to install and test.

Please advise:

*what OS to use for installation of Adminstudio 2013 (Windows Vista/7 64-BIT/Windows 2008 R2)?
*what prereqs for installation: no antivirus? no domain join? ….
*any other input is welcome

Thanks for your input.

Windows 8.1 Environment variable not available until reboot / logoff-logon

$

I have a Basic MSI installation project and in this package I install a new system wide environment variable (in the attached example it’s named MYTEST with value 1).
Normally (on Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8) the new variable is immediately available for a new process (e.g. command prompt) which will be started directly after the installation finished.

But with Windows 8.1 (I tried the x86 version) the variable will be installed and is visible in the windows dialog where you can modify these variables (see screenshot) but it is not visible for new started processes until I reboot or make a logoff and Login!

That is a complete new behavior. Is this a bug or a feature and how can I avoid the reboot under a Windows 8.1? Must I change all older setups to work with Windows 8.1?

P.S.
Creating the variable not with msi but directly in the windows dialog for editing the environment variables, then the new variable is immediately available for new processes without a reboot.

Condition VersionMsi >= "5.00" as string comparison

In the Execute Sequence I see the action MsiConfigureServices with the condition VersionMsi >= "5.00". It's a string comparison for a version number which could be wrong (e.g. "10.0" >= "5.0" would result in false).

Is it a good idea to exchange it by a property that was set by the System Search? For example using a System Search for [SystemFolder]msi.dll, MinVersion >= 5.0.0.0 and then setting a property which is entered as condition.

It seems that the property VersionMSI should not be used for conditions (greater than etc.). I already use a property in a condition of a <Next> button in a dialog (because of this new Hyperlink control which requires WindowsInstaller 5). It seems that it works fine but I'm not sure about it.

It's because it is a condition that comes with InstallShield. Should I really change it? Or do I better if I ignore about it? What is the opinion?

Cannot get build variables to work for file name, not working as documented.

I need to use build variables in file names to be installed such as libMySdk.so.@MYMAJORVERSION@.@MYMINORVERSION@.@MYBUILDREVISION@. I try setting these variables in Advanced Designer. When that did not work, I set them in the Windows environment as IA_BTV_MYMAJORVERSION=6, etc. I even tried @IA_BTV_MYMAJORVERSION@=6. This still does not work. Note: I am not interested in the 4th value of the version, i.e., the build subrevision. I need to be able to access build version numbers separately by major, minor, and build revision.

When the version changes, I don't want to have to script changing the referenced files containing version info in their filenames in MySDK_Linuxs.ia_xml (the project file) using XML DOM, XSLT, or regex. But hey, maybe converting the .ia_xml file into a giant Jinja2 template might make automated building with InstallAnywhere tolerable if I can't access build variables in filenames. I guess I could reference these files via a "speed folder" and grab whatever is there, but that is a cop out. I've done the whole RTFM thing and can't seem to get any decent answers.

I always get error messages saying the then file cannot be found. Changing the variables back to the number in the file in the .ia_xml file fixes it. I need something more parameterized.

Thanks,
greenaj
