IE is not able to call/install the Setup EXE created in Install Shield 2012 Spring

Hello All,

I have a setup.exe which will copy few files and will register a .NET assembly during installation. Since I need to run this setup in our web application (via IE), I have created a CAB for the setup.exe. Inside the CAB file I am having only one file which is setup.exe. This was working fine when I have used the Install Shield 12. The CAB file gets downloaded in the client machine and the install works fine.

Recently I have migrated our ism to Install Shield 2012 Spring premier. After this migration, the IE can able to download the CAB file in the client machine and it never starts our installation. There is no log in the client machine's event log and there is IE log.

I have searched in the internet forums and I am unable to find the cause for the issue.

Please let me know if you have any idea on this?

BadImageFormatException

Hello Folks,
I've run into a strange problem with this error where we are only seeing it on windows XP systems. I have checked the .Net Framework File locations on the build machine and it is pointing to C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727 and C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727 respectively. When we install our product on OS's greater then Vista we have no issues. When we go to install it on a Windows XP system it appears to be trying to use .Net Framework 1.1 rather then 2.0, I have seen in the isconfig.xml for the component on the target machine it actually contains both .net versions not just the 2.0.50727 version. Does anyone know what would provoke this behavior or how to stop it from happening?

IsCmdBld.exe not signing files

I have configured my InstallShield project to sign both my output Setup.exe as well as some of the executables that are installed as part of my project. If I build my project using the InstallShield UI, everything is signed correctly. I can see in the built output that the exe's were signed and when I install, I can verify the exes are signed.

However, when I build this same project on our automation server using IsCmdBld.exe, the Setup.exe is signed correctly but none of the files that are installed with my application are signed. I checked the build output and there is no mention anywhere that the files were signed. Any idea what could be going on here?

InstallScript MSI Project Crashing When I Run or Debug Installer

Updating a program

Is there a step by step guide to setting up InstallShield to allow a program to update? When trying to install an update to my program all I get is a message that tells the user that an existing version exists and to remove it using Add/Remove programs. I want to automate this but am struggling on how to achieve it.

Install Shield searching .Net 3.5 Features on Server 2012

Hello,
I am creating install script project using Install shield 2009, this setup is working correctly in all OS, but for server 2012, It is installing the setup well, but at the last it is searching for Windows default feature and giving this warning The fallowing feature couldn't be installed, .Net Framework 3.5 , As I don't need this feature, My project is in Java, I didn't keep any .Net dependencies or prerequisite in project, Then Why it is searching this feature at last of setup,:confused:

Sporadically recieving Error 5011 - 0x80040707

Hello together,

I am new to these forums and I hope you can help me :-)

We are creating setups with IS2011 premier edition which are distributed world wide to arround 30000 systems every two month. With the last update we started to recieve more and more cases with the Error 5011 - 0x80040707.

We can see in the LOG-Files that the error occurs when we read from the registry. (I found http://consumerdocs.installshield.co...8167&sliceId=1, but the error also occurs when these keys are correctly set). The value we read from the regestry is there.
After restarting the system the setup is working fine most of the time, it can happen that the error occurs multiple times, but after "some" reboots it works...

e.g. a simple registry query value:

Our Install-Script is very big (over 70000 lines of InstallScript Code). We have the assumption that the error is cause because of some memory problem and we are trying to analyze this at the moment.

Additionally we can 'move' this error to other places in code only by changing the quantity/size of compiled code.

Do you have any other ideas what could be the problem?

IA 2011 sp4 japanese Installer fails

I have upgraded the project from 2010 SP1 to 2011 Sp4 for support of Windows 2012 OS
The project ran succesfully on English locale. While trying to install on Japanese Locale, the installer extracts and when i select the Japanese language from the locale screen an Invocation target exception dialog is shown the details show an IA stacktrace with Stackover flow exception

My project also has a merge module in it.

Note: Tried the same on IA 2012 and had no luck. It works fine in IA 2011 which doesnt support Windows 2012

Problems with dynamic linking to build directory on TFS build server

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me figuring this out, as I am getting really frustrated. I have a complex program consisting of 19 projects in one solution in Visual Studio 2012, and have recently added an InstallShield project to the solution in order to automate the creation of the setup file. We have a TFS build server running continuous integration (using TFS 2010 and Visual Studio 2010, not 2012), so everything is built and tested after each check in.

My solution uses a number of NuGet packages, which are stored in a folder named “Packages” in the solution folder in source control. A NuGet package can typically contain different dlls for use with different versions of .Net, or dlls that are optional when using the package. Therefore, in order to include the correct dlls in my setup.exe, I have to include the dlls that ends up in each projects bin folder. This is actually the same folder for all projects, so what I need to do is collect every dll that ends up in this output directory, and link them into my setup project. I have a path variable that points to this directory, and a custom task that updates the variable during each build before running MSBuild. In my setup project, I have a set of components that have dynamic linking to this variable, and different filters to include different set of dlls.

This works on my computer. Well, actually it only works if I first build all other projects, and then builds the InstallShield project. If I try to compile everything directly, I get an error saying “error : -6225: Resolving Visual Studio .NET project output <pathToExeProject>|Built”, where <pathToExeProject> is the relative path from my solution directory to the project that compiles my .exe file. Not the most useful message, but I have learned to accept the workaround of building the setup project separately. On the server, everything seems to be working as it should. The build completes without errors, and the setup.exe is generated. The only problem is that the dlls that should have been included from my dynamic linking are missing. Content files, like .pdf, .xml and .ico files, works as expected, even though they are referenced in the exact same way. I have double and triple checked that all files exists in the build output folder after the build, so the installer project should find them as long as it is the last project to be built (which at least VS says it is).

So… I hope I made myself as clear as possible. Can anyone give me a place to start looking for a way to dynamically link to files copied to the “bin” directory during build?

Before you ask:
No, I do not want to link directly to the source control folders where these files exist. These folders contains version number, and are changed each time we upgrade a NuGet package, which is often, and I do not want to manually having to modify the setup project just because we upgrade some 3rd party component.

How to access value data of Registry directly by skipping just upper level node. e. g HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{Keycode}... i want to skip keycode and access Value data from Uninstall node . Value data is data of Value name under Keycode. Could anyone please help me in this?? what is the function and how to access it . and whether there is possible to get all Values of Value data in String List??

Fatal Error 0 in installshield 2011 build

Hi,

I am getting fatal error 0 while creating install shield build.

It is showing error 110: Error while opening .msi file which got created inside Disk1 folder.

Size of .msi file is 495KB.

Please let me know if anyone has resolved this issue.

Considering how IIS default application pool user identity evolved on different windows editions, can someone tell if there is a generic way to grant write access to specific folder in the web application folder.

The installer I am working on should work on multiple Windows editions and I am trying to know what options do I have to simplify the process.

Could not install IA2012SP1

Hi,

I have downloaded InstallAnywhere 2012 SP1 and trying to execute it.
I have no instances of IA2012 on my machine.
I'm trying to install it in C:\Program Files (x86) and I get this error:
Not a valid InstallAnywhere folder
The chosen folder does not seem to be a valid InstallAnywhere 2012 Enterprise folder

I get the same error when trying to install in c:\ directly and in c:\program files and in any other place.

Could anyone please advice?

2012 Pro: Adding files to My Documents

It is my understanding there should be a PersonalFolder for this.
But I can't seem to find it.

In application files if I right click Destination computer, Show Predefined Folder is greyed out.
PersonalFolder is also not on the drop down list of destinations under components

Its an install script project

Am I being an dim?
