PRQ for c++ redistributables installs but ISM reports that it failed

I took the following prq from this forum to install the x86 c++ 2013 redistributables (see below). I created a prq file, copied the code in the file and saved it. When I opend my a simple ism, underprequisites I found the prequiste and added it to the project.
When I run the setup.exe that is generated the install prompts come up and the redistributables are installed however the ism pops up a window indicating the install failed. When I check Programs and Features in windows it shows
that they were installed. What changes need to be made so the ism script realizes the installation was successful?

How Do I create a "Plugin" or " Patch" - I don't even know what to call it.

Hello,

I apologize for being so "Green" with Flexera/InstallShield. I replaced someone here at work, and was actually able
to Load the .Ism file (which is called from a MS Build script - where I excluded files, etc.). I was able to ADD to the installation for
this product. It worked!! I could not believe I could learn this thing on my own. Now I need to do something else.

We have "released" this software I build to customers. They are using it. Some users (not All) need another file a .dll placed in their
c:ProgramData (x86)\Osmose\PPL\Plugins folder. I have been distributing this file to users and having them drop it there. This works,
but I have been asked to "automate" this (without cutting a NEW Release of the product).

It is that simple - the build/installation works great. I can generate a setup (or .msi) file just fine for this product, but now I need to
create this "plugin" (or "Patch") that simple drops a file at a folder location when a user runs it, and that's it.

Can someone tell me how to do this? I would guess this must be pretty easy.

Bundling Java with Exe

If I chose to Install the Bundled/Downloaded Virtual machine (Only when installing a Launch Anywhere) , then will the exe use the JVM from my local machine to execute Java code ?
I had a client complaint that he has java issues while executing the exe. Is that possible , in that case which JVM in the system is the exe trying to use?

I have a basic msi project built in IS2014 SP1. Installs successfully on Windows 7 workstations. Fails on Windows Server 2008 RC2 with Application Error 1000. MSI log indicates installation was successful.

Building SQLServer and adding tables and queries

We are installing Microsoft SQL (SQLEXPR32_EN) and then building the database with tables and queries etc.
When running the InstallShield installation the tables and queries are trying to be created before the SQL database is built.

I have tested the install of the SQL build and works correctly so I am presuming that the order of Creating the database is
after the Tables and Queries being built
My Microsoft Sql switches are as follows

Read Data from registry

Hi
This may sound a little dumb but i cant find a way to read data from registry during uninstall of an application. I made a registry entry during installation and now i want to read it when i run the setup again for upgrade or uninstalling the application. I want to lkeep the stored registry value in a property. Can anyone help me with it?

P:S I am working on a basic MSI project.

Error 2705 invalid table Directory,Could not be linked as tree while installing Patch

I created a patch using patch design it fails as soon as installation starts with folowing error - error 2705 invalid table directory; could not be linked as a tree.
If I compare the latest msi with released msi i find only few files and subfolders added under a dynamic linked folder which creates new entries in directory, component, feature component and few other tables as seen in image attached. Image shows table differences between release and latest msi. Our previous releae years update has no such issues.
I validated msi's but didnt find any new error. Also if I try and Install latest created msi it installs fine, only patch install fails. I also tried looking for any break or mismatch in directory table but found that new folders have same parent folder as the old ones under same location.
Please let me know the resolution asap as it is workstopper issue.

Basic MSI Setup: Setup is too impatient when trying to close runnin applications

Hi!

My current basic MSI setup has to close some applications before it can update a current installation. The said applications are Windows Servicea which sometimes take a while to shut down, unfortunately this makes the setup think it failed to close the processes which is usually not true. In that case the user is asked to close the applications manually before proceeding with the installation, but until the service panel or TaskManager is opened by the user the services are usually already shut down.

I've attached two screen shots (although they are from a German system you should be familiar with these)

I think there is somekind of timeout that is too short. Does anybody know how to fix this issue?

Firewall settings messed up with RepackageWizz and installshield 2014

Hello, I'm still a newbee with Installshield 2014, but have had some basic training and trying to make some packages.
I have repackage Misys Opics Client software. The thing is that the installation makes an entry for the firewall that has the Name OpicsPlusPubSub and is set for TCP communication on port 1234.
When i capture the program with the Repackage Wizard, this setting is not correctly interpreted. After making a new build I do get 2 new Firewall setting, but they have the name OpicsPlus, are blocked by the local W7 OS, one entry is for TCP and the other for UDP communication and is not specified for any port, just any port will do. The fact that this setting is blocked will result in a popup from the Firewall software and asking me if this application is allowed to be using the firewall. This is off course something we do not want.
Why is this happening and more important how do i deal with these things? Do i not install the Firewall settings and have to run a script after installing the new build. Are there settings or things in Installshield that i don't know yet?
If somebody has some experiance with sort of problems, please let me know.

Replacing selective files during upgrade.

So here is the deal.

I am deploying a set of files in my basic msi project and I want that except one all the files should always be replaced whenever the upgrade occurs. I have added all the files by dynamic link except the file i wanted to keep as i had to modify its properties. Please help! I know its kind of a basic level knowledge but any kind of help is appreciated. Thanks!

Applying new/updated transform through reinstall?

Hello all

I have a situation where I have an installation where I created a transform for a 3. party MSI.
All that I added in the transform was a customer specific shortcut.

The MSI+MST has already been distributed to the end-users.

Now I need to change an argument in that one shortcut.

Is it possible to do this without having to uninstall the product first and then install the MSI Again with a new transform?

Basic MSI: Context menu is not displayed for scrollable text control

Hi,

In Basic MSI project UI dialog, display the contents of file or stream in a text box.

1. Display the contents from file or stream
2. The contents should be read only.
3. When right clicked on the control, context menu should be displayed allowing the user to copy the text.

We are unable to display the context menu when mouse right button is clicked.

Kindly let us know how to enable context menu for scrollable text control.

Please find the attached screenshot of the Expected behaviour.

How to hide country names for languages on Language Dialog?

Hi,

I have created a setup.exe using IS2014.
The setup.exe supports installation in 8 different languages.
I want to hide the country names that are shown in Language Dialog which pops up when the setup.exe is executed.
Can anyone help me out?

Run PL/SQL Scripts

Hi,
I have to run PL/SQL scripts using the installers. I have set the connection to Oracle database(Oracle Instant Client 11.2.0.4). The connection is successful. But while I run the scripts I found some errors:

Actually my other doubt is, my script is having many dependent objects. If I run the script will it call all those objects from my target system.

Setup starts again after restart. Help ASAP

I install a prerequisite which requires a restart. I want the installation to continue from the point where this feature prerequisite was installed but it starts again from the beginning. Is there a solution to this? Please help ASAP

Hey all, I recently ran into this problem. When I am installing IIS by enabling it from roles and features no restart is required but when i am installing it using installshield Advanced UI project it requires a restart to enable the roles and features. I dont want to restart my system. Is there a way to achieve this? Please help

LaunchAppAndWait with msiexec doesn't wait

Hi All

I have Basic MSI Project where I am trying to uninstall previous version of the product that was created by different developed.

I was thinking using msiexec since it seems to work fine from command line.

I created InstallScript function and set it to:

Synchronous (Check exit code)
Immediate Execution
Always execute
After File Cost

HTML Code:

I can see that it starts uninstalling previous product, but it exits before it's done uninstalling.

So my question is how to make sure that LaunchAppAndWait will wait for product uninstall and then continue?

Or if you have better way to uninstall previous product I will be happy to hear it.

Install ODBC Drivers freeze InstallShield

Hello,

I have a project that has been working perfectly up until now.

Under ODBC Resources, I included the Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb).

Now InstallShield stalls at Installing ODBC Components, at about 60% on the progress bar.
Tried cancelling, but it won't cancel only way to get out of it is to restart the computer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Updating file in InstallSheild does not seem to update the file.

Hello all,

All I'm trying to do it to update an file.exe.config file (XML Config File). I have selected my feature I wanted to add it to. I added the file through Files and Folders to the directory I want. I removed the oringal file, then i added the updated XML Config File) I set the version in the File table to 65535.0.0.0 so it will always overwrite what is there. I saved the MST and it created a cab file for me.

When I run the install, it does not update the file. Instead, the original xml config file is still there. Why isn't the update file applying itself to the install directory?

Did I miss something?
